------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What detergent should I use? - Powder Form (Recommended)Laundry detergents in powder form are a great option for cloth diapers because there seem to be less additives in the detergent residue build up as a result. To prevent residue build up in cloth diapers it is important to use recommended cloth diaper detergents and to ensure a full rinse cycle (or two) when washing the diapers.

- Q.
What's in the Laundry Soda? - A.
SODA ASH - (SODIUM CARBONATE) also known as washing soda. In domestic use, it's used as a water softener during laundry.
SODIUM METASILICATE - A major use is as a builder (a material that enhances or maintains the cleaning efficiency of a surfactant, principally by inactivating water hardness) in soaps and detergents
SODIUM CHLORIDE - Sodium chloride, also known as common salt, table salt, or halite. As well as the familiar uses of salt in cooking, salt is used in many applications, from manufacturing pulp and paper to setting dyes in textiles and fabric, to producing soaps and detergents.
CITRIC ACID - This is a weak organic acid. It serves as an environmentally benign cleaning agent and acts as an antioxidant.
The Detergent is Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate. It is a coconut based (LAURYL) Ethoxylated fatty alcohol. Coconut oil on its own will wash nothing. It is therefore chemically modified so that it becomes surface active and thus performs like a detergent. This commodity is widely used by many detergent manufacturers because it is readily biodegradable, non toxic and mild and efficient. It is also NOT Petroleum based.
- Q.
How do I use the Laundry Soda? - A.
For best results use one tablespoon of Laundry Soda per LARGE wash load. Wash according to the specific instructions on your garments. Make sure to always test first on garments that may bleed or fade. Nellie's™ Laundry Soda dissolves quickly in cold or hot water.
- Q.
Is the Laundry Soda scented? - A.
Traditional laundry detergents use scent to mask odors rather than remove them. Many people associate the fresh smell of scented products with cleanliness. Traditional soaps will clean and scent the surface but may not actually penetrate the material. Once the fragrance from the detergent dissipates, the musty smell may return.
Nellie's laundry soda is unscented and designed to penetrate the fabric as well as remove the odors, not mask them. Nellie's rinses clear and leaves no residue.
If you would like your laundry to have a scent, consider a natural linen spray or a lavender pouch that can be placed in the dryer.
How do I remove poo from the cloth diapers?
It is easy to remove anything fairly
solid from suede cloth, simply shake the solids into the toilet. Then
remove the insert and rinse away any remaining poo. The mini toilet
spray is very useful for spraying off solid waste.
* Pre-wash 3-5 times in hot water with a small amount of detergent, drying between each wash. * During pre-wash, do not wash them with Fleece products. Hemp has natural oils in it and the oils can coat your fleece. * Product shrinks to size and becomes absorbent during this process. Once pre-washed, insert may be washed and dried with the rest of the diapers. * Dry on low heat or hang to dry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where to store wet and dirty diapers / accessories? In a Wet Pail, Dry Pail or Pail Liner. Wet Pail (*Recommended) Covered diaper pail half-filled with water until wash day. Dry Pail Covered with or without a liner or simply a hanging laundry bag. It is much easier than wet pails. Dirty diapers are placed in it until wash day. * By doing a pre-soak or a rinse in your washing machine without detergent before doing a hot wash you are eliminating the need for a wet pail. Pail Liner It is a waterproof laundry bag. On laundry day simply turn the bag inside out for all diapers to fall into washer. Throw in the Pail Liner at the same time too. No more washing dirty pails! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stains can be caused by different foods (e.g. ginger etc), illnesses and medications.
But do not worry, stains do not affect the utility of your diaper. Note : Bleach may be used on the inserts only—please do not use bleach on the diapers, this will damage the PUL (waterproof layer)!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cloth Diaper Odor :: Strip Cloth Diapers :: Remove Cloth Diaper Build UpAfter months of cloth
diapering your baby,
you may notice that the cloth diapers do not smell as fresh and clean as they used to – or they may have a slight lingering odor. When this happens it simply means that the cloth diapers have a
build up of detergent that is not rinsing out during the wash/rinse cycle. Cloth diapers that have a build up of detergent or oils (ie if you use drops tea tree oil or lavender oil on the diapers for freshness)
are not only prone to having a lingering smell but they also tend to
become leaky and less absorbent. Stripping cloth diapers is a very simple process and will leave your diapers smelling like new! Before you begin make sure you have washed the cloth diapers because
you cannot effectively strip dirty cloth diapers. Start with clean cloth diapers. Washing Instructions to Remove Cloth Diaper Odor and Build UpHot Wash Run the cloth diapers through a hot wash cycle with no detergent. If
you check on the wash mid cycle and see suds in the wash that is a sure sign you have a detergent build up in your cloth diapers. Rinse Cycle Put the cloth diapers through several rinse cycles to make sure all
of the excess detergent build up is removed from the diapers. It can
take between two – four rinse cycles to completely remove the detergent build up. Vinegar During the last rinse cycle add a couple of drops of vinegar into
the rinse to completely remove all detergent residues from the cloth
diapers. This will not cause the diapers to smell like vinegar – in
fact it will ensure your diapers are fresh, clean and fully absorbent
simply because it aids in removing build up from the diapers. |
